Dear Sir or Madam!
Growing demand for energy and accelerating climate change pose immense challenges for the energy sector. OMV is committed to shaping the future of energy sustainably – for today and for tomorrow. This not only means reducing our CO2 emissions, using resources more efficiently and developing CO2-neutral energy sources - we also use plastic waste as a new raw material with our ReOil innovation. This newsletter highlights our recent sustainability progress - in our own operations and for our local communities.

OMV now offers the members of “jö Bonus Club” the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions at OMV filling stations. Voluntary offsetting of CO2 emissions, alongside carbon reduction and prevention, is an integral part of a holistic approach to climate protection.

OMV received funding from the environmental innovation program of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment to implement a new energy-efficient isobutene production process at the Burghausen refinery in Germany. Isobutene is a key material used in manufacturing glues, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals e.g. in the manufacturing of vitamin C.

OMV’s ReOil facility turns 100 kg plastic waste into 100 liters of synthetic crude oil per hour. Such plastic waste recycling and substituting of fossil crude oil with synthetic crude oil could result in a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as plastic waste reduction.

OMV's recent achievements in social and community investments:

OMV hosted a special opera performance at the Vienna State Opera to promote access to culture for all. More than 800 children supported by social organizations that partner with OMV, together with schoolchildren from OMV neighboring communities in Lower Austria attended the event.

In 2019, a total of 180 persons benefited from OMV Petrom’s vocational training projects in Romania. The projects focused on increasing employability of people in 11 rural communities around our operations. People received trainings in e.g. caregiving, hairstyling, agricultural mechanics, plumbing. |

In Yemen, OMV built three water tanks in the district where OMV operates. The tanks will provide drinking water to approximately 8,500 community members in 28 villages and settlements.

For the third year in a row, OMV and its employees raised funds in the “Suppe mit Sinn” (Soup with Purpose) initiative. With a donation of EUR 7,726, our partner non-profit organization, “Wiener Tafel”, will be able to serve 80,000 meals to people affected by poverty in Vienna. |

OMV Petrom initiated the multi-year afforestation campaign - “Romania Plants for Tomorrow”, in partnership with 7 non-governmental organizations in Romania. The first tree planting event last November gathered 3,000 volunteers, planting 71,000 trees on an area of 13.5 ha (equivalent to over 13 football fields). Forests have an important role in absorbing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) from our atmosphere, therefore afforestation is one of the key nature-based solutions to the risks of climate change. |
