OMV Sustainability Newsletter
Sustainability Newsletter January 2020
Dear Sir or Madam!

Growing demand for energy and accelerating climate change pose immense challenges for the energy sector. OMV is committed to shaping the future of energy sustainably – for today and for tomorrow. This not only means reducing our CO2 emissions, using resources more efficiently and developing CO2-neutral energy sources - we also use plastic waste as a new raw material with our ReOil innovation. This newsletter highlights our recent sustainability progress - in our own operations and for our local communities.
OMV offers CO2 offsetting on its filling stations in Austria
OMV now offers the members of “jö Bonus Club” the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions at OMV filling stations. Voluntary offsetting of CO2 emissions, alongside carbon reduction and prevention, is an integral part of a holistic approach to climate protection.

Did you know?
OMV’s ReOil facility turns 100 kg plastic waste into 100 liters of synthetic crude oil per hour. Such plastic waste recycling and substituting of fossil crude oil with synthetic crude oil could result in a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as plastic waste reduction.
OMV's recent achievements in social and community investments:

Planted 71,000 trees in Romania
OMV Petrom initiated the multi-year afforestation campaign - “Romania Plants for Tomorrow”, in partnership with 7 non-governmental organizations in Romania. The first tree planting event last November gathered 3,000 volunteers, planting 71,000 trees on an area of 13.5 ha (equivalent to over 13 football fields). Forests have an important role in absorbing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) from our atmosphere, therefore afforestation is one of the key nature-based solutions to the risks of climate change.
